Toronto, ON - On Tuesday (July 21) at the Pan Am Games in Toronto, former Gryphon Alex Genest took home a Silver medal in the Men's 3,000m Steeplechase. It was part of a 1-2 finish for Canada as Oshawa native Matt Hughes claimed the gold. The final lap of the Men's 3,000m Steeplechase not only ended in a pair of medals for Canada, it also produced one of the most dramatic finishes of any event at the 2015 Pan Am Games. While Hughes enjoyed a comfortable lead, Genest found himself in 3rd trailing American Corey Leslie. After coming around the final corner, Genest made his move to overtake Leslie to give the Canadians a thrilling top two finish. What made it even more special for the former Gryphon athlete is that he was able to do so in front of a raucous home crowd, as well as his friends and family.
