Gryphon Runner Ross Proudfoot named OUA Male Athlete of the Week

Hamilton, Ont. - University of Guelph Gryphons cross country runner Ross Proudfoot (Sudbury, Ont.) was named the Pioneer Energy Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Male Athlete of the Week for the period ending October 27th, 2014. Each Pioneer Energy OUA Athlete of the Week will receive a gift card and a dri-fit T-shirt, courtesy of Pioneer Energy.The Guelph Gryphons cross-country dynasty continued to soar at the OUA Championships, and fifth-year athlete Ross Proudfoot was a huge reason why. Proudfoot took home the men's individual gold medal, leading the Gryphons to a sweep of the top four places. It was the Gryphons 10th consecutive men's team championship, one of the most successful runs in the history of OUA sport. The fifth-year senior will go down as one of the all-time greats in OUA history. His impressive resume boasts two individual championships, two second-place finishes, and five team championships. His lowest result came in his rookie season when he finished in fourth place.Sarah Dunning, Toronto Varsity Blues golfer was named the OUA Female Athlete of the Week. The Toronto Varsity Blues captured a third consecutive OUA team women's golf championship thanks to some amazing play by Sarah Dunning. Taking place at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club on Oct. 20-21, the third-year math major captured the individual championship by three shots with a two-round score of 149. Dunning put together a first round score of 76 and followed it up with a tournament low of 73 in the second round. As a team, the Blues shot a combined score of 461, a whopping 23 strokes ahead of the silver-medal winning Western Mustangs. After the tournament, Dunning was named an OUA First-Team All-Star.
